چکیده

Abstract Background The relationship between physiological age of parental trees and lifespan clonal offspring is unclear. White oak ( Quercus fabri Hance) has a high sprouting capability after harvest, with the regenerated sprouts being typical individuals. To determine whether undergo rapid senescence compared parent, levels 5-, 10-, 20- 40-year-old stump in natural forest were evaluated. antioxidative abilities transcriptomes these leaves shoots compared. Results Older still had robust systems, having lower peroxidation product but similar enzyme activity 5-year-old sprouts. greater transcriptional activities pathways related to cell growth division than younger leaves. However, older some unhealthy characteristics, such as increased base excision repair upregulated phagosome, proteasome glycerophospholipid metabolism leaves, which indicates that DNA damage tissue remodeling occurred more frequently Additionally, plant-pathogen interactions MAPK signals shoots, suffered from pathogen-related biotic stress. Conclusions same vitality level sprouts, although former characteristics. We conclude during their first 40 years growth, do not begin senesce, does significantly affect its offspring.

Mating patterns of black oak Quercus velutina (Fagaceae) in a Missouri oak-hickory forest.

Wind-pollinated forest trees usually have high outcrossing rates, but allogamy does not necessarily translate into high pollen movement. The goal of this study was to determine the outcrossing rates, pollen pool genetic structure, and the size of the effective pollination neighborhood in a population of black oak, Quercus velutina, in a Missouri oak-hickory forest. Based on 6 allozyme loci, 12 ...

Stump Sprout Dominance Probabilities of Five Oak Species in Southern Indiana 20 Years after Clearcut Harvesting

—Oak (Quercus spp.) stump sprouts are vital to sustaining oak’s presence and long-term dominance when regenerating oak or mixed-hardwood forests in southern Indiana. A study was initiated on the Hoosier National Forest in southern Indiana in 1987 to predict the sprouting potential and dominance probability of oaks. Before clearcut harvesting, we sampled 2,188 trees of fi ve oak species and meas...

Conservation of genetic diversity in artificially regenerated holm oak (Quercus ilex L.) populations

Reforestation with autochthonous species should take into account the preservation of the variability and the geographical structure of genetic diversity in forest species. In order to provide empirical data, genetic composition of an artificial population of holm oak (Quercus ilex L.) and its natural seed-origin population in Andalusia were analysed with six microsatellite loci. The genetic di...

Long-term Growth and Persistence of Blue Oak (quercus Douglasii) Seedlings in a California Oak Savanna

We report on growth and survivorship of two cohorts of blue oaks Quercus douglasii Hook. & Arn. (Fagaceae) monitored at Hastings Reservation in Monterey County, California, the first growing in an unprotected old field and measured as seedlings in 1965 and the second planted as acorns in 1985 in several sites differing in their degree of protection from grazing. Growth of all individuals was ex...

Isolation and characterization of microsatellite loci in Quercus fabri (Fagaceae).

Quercus fabri is a pioneer species of secondary succession in evergreen broadleaved forests in China. In this study, we isolated and developed 12 polymorphic and 2 monomorphic microsatellite loci for Q. fabri using the biotin-streptavidin capture method. We characterized 12 polymorphic loci in 52 individuals from two populations. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 3 to 23. The observed...
